The Week Before Christmas Anti-Sale!

Here’s an idea so crazy it just might work.
What if one store chose the week before Christmas to have a Week Before Christmas Anti-Sale? The price of everything in the store would be marked up by 20%, and the employees would get a bonus for working that week. It markets itself: “Stressed out by holiday crowds? Come to our store’s anti-sale! Everything is marked up by 20%! It’s peaceful and quiet in here, and all the employees are happy! Isn’t your peace of mind worth it?”

Oliver:
I don’t know if the marketing would be as successful the week of Hanukkah, since the “avoid the crowds” remarkableness only works if all the other stores are crowded. I think it would depend on which week Hanukkah fell on that year. (:

Also, I remarked to Marty earlier that, well, plenty of people don’t celebrate Christmas. And maybe some people are like me — I celebrate it, after a fashion, but I also happily work right through it, lots of years. I kind of like what I do, and see no reason to suspend my work just because lots of other people do… :P

YES! If only I had a retail storefront, huh? This is a great idea. The bonus could go to the employees, improving the atmosphere of the store, charity concerns, or all three — and there could be a display to show customers the good their patronage is doing. I would shop at that store, AND pay the 20% markup.
