One of my energywork teachers gives this advice to people who are trying to manifest a smaller waistline:

The universe does not want you to be a loser! If you say "I want to LOSE weight" to the universe, the universe hears "LOSE?! oh no! losing is sad! when you lose something, you should find it again!" So you might lose the weight for a little while...but don't worry, the universe will make sure you find it again!

He recommends that you say "I want to RELEASE this weight" or "I want to be healthier and more physically fit", or simply "I want to weigh [number of pounds]."

@Tanya: yes! One of the difficult things I've found about switching to positivity is that it's hard to change a behavior without feeling like the old behavior was "wrong". Of course sometimes I'm still going to do the old behavior, and I'm most likely to slip up into negativity when I'm already feeling negative, and then I'm telling myself that I'm doing something wrong because I'm not being positive enough, and then I'm doing something even wronger by telling myself I'm doing something wrong, and...spiral onward! So I'm trying to improve on that by telling myself "Hey, you learned to do this for a reason. It served you well for a long time. It's okay that you still do it sometimes. It's not a bad or wrong behavior". Another thing I try to do to reinforce it is when I notice other people speaking negatively...again, the habit is to feel like they are doing something "wrong" and try to "correct" or "fix" or "help" them, but instead I try to say "I wonder why that behavior serves them well." If I know them well enough I might ask them, or if not, I might say "I guess I can't really know that about them, but that's okay. That's their behavior choice and this is mine." Then I can feel positive about my choice without feeling negative about theirs.
Or at least, that's what I'm aiming for. I wholeheartedly admit that I am thoroughly imperfect at positivity and communication. :)

another important part of making the switch to positivity is forgiving yourself for not doing it sooner. It's embarrassing to have been the whiny negative giver-upper for however long you've been doing it, and when I slowly made the switch, the hardest part was that self-forgiveness.

Congratulations for finding the positive and focusing on it!
